Volkswagen Jetta Warning Lights

2019 Volkswagen Jetta rear view with smartkey(1)

You’re driving along the roads of Arlington, and suddenly, you notice that one or more of the symbols on your dashboard are now illuminated? What should you do? Don’t panic! If the light is yellow, you will want to bring your vehicle in to be looked at by a professional as soon as possible. If the light is red, you should pull over when it is safe to do so and call for assistance. Alexandria Volkswagen has compiled a guide to the Volkswagen Jetta warning lights, so you have a better idea of what is going on with your vehicle when this happens.

A Guide to the VW Jetta Warning Lights

Antilock Braking System Malfunction: If your antilock braking system is not operating as it should, this light and the brake light will be illuminated.
AdBlue® Level Warning: If this light is on, it could indicate an issue with the AdBlue® system, or it could just need a refill. If the wrench icon is also lit, it could also be a problem with the system or that it was not filled with standard AdBlue®.
AdBlue® No Restart Warning: This red warning light is a bit more serious. It means there is not enough AdBlue® and that the engine can’t be restarted.
Airbag Problem: This light could show that there is a problem with the belt tensioning system or that the passenger airbag is now deactivated.
Automatic Transmission Malfunction: If this light goes on, make an appointment to have the transmission inspected by a professional.
Brake Light Bulb Failure: If you see this light, one or more of the brake lights are not working.
Brake Pad Wear: When you see this light, take a look at your brake pads. It may be time for a replacement.
Bulb Failure: If the light is solid and yellow, it signifies bulb failure. If the light flashes, there is a problem with the headlight leveling or AFS.

Check Engine Light

Coolant Level Low/Coolant Temperature High: When this red warning light is on, stop to inspect your coolant levels.
DRL: This green light is simply telling you that your daytime running lights are on.
DSG® Transmission Too Hot: When this red light is illuminated, you should not continue driving. You need to give the transmission some time to cool off.
Parking Brake: If this red warning light is engaged, there is an error with the parking brake.
Engine Malfunction (On-Board Diagnostics): It is time for service if the yellow engine emission malfunction light is on.
EPC – Exhaust Gas: This yellow light lets you know that the engine is malfunctioning. Bring your vehicle to Alexandria Volkswagen for service.
ESP/ASR: When this yellow light is solid, the system is inactive. If it is flashing, there is an ESP/ASR event.
Fuel Cap off or Missing: Check your fuel cap to make sure it is properly secured.
Hood Open: If this red light is illuminated, stop to make sure the hood of the car is tightly closed.
Immobilizer: This yellow light tells you if the wrong key is being used or the key is not programed to this specific vehicle.
BX-32 License Plate Bulb Failure: This light notifies you that one or more of your license plate bulbs are out.
Low Fuel Level: When this yellow light comes on, you will soon need to stop at a gas station to refuel.
Oil Pressure: If a red oil can and a yellow pressure light are both on at the same time, turn the engine off because there is no oil pressure.
Oil Level Low: If this light is on, check the oil level and bring your Jetta in for service.
Rain Sensor Malfunction: If this light is on, try turning the ignition off and on again. If the light is still on, set up a service appointment.
Shift Lock: If you see this green light, it’s just telling you to apply the brake to shift the vehicle into gear.
Steering: This yellow light shows you that there is a problem with the steering column. If it is a yellow solid light, power steering assist has been reduced. If it is yellow and flashing, there is a problem with the electronic steering column lock. If it is red and solid, it indicates a power steering assist failure. When the light is flashing and red, the electronic steering column lock is malfunctioning.
Tire Pressure Low: This yellow light indicates that the TPMS is not working properly or that tire pressure is low.
Washer Fluid Low: This yellow light is just a reminder to fill your washer fluid.
