If you’re searching for dog parks in Arlington, VA, you have no shortage of options. We’ve put together this guide to the best local dog parks, so you can skip the unattractive settings and know exactly what to expect when you reach your destination.
301 S. Harrison St., Arlington, VA – Open Until Sunset
Glencarlyn Park is just a short drive Arlington city center, close to the neighborhoods Glencarlyn and Barcroft. Although it’s not too far from the city, you’d never know it from a short jaunt through this naturally stimulating location next to Four Mile Run. This 95-acre park includes multiple picnic areas, plentiful trails, and a standalone dog park where it’s safe to run around.
801 S. Scott St., Arlington, VA – Open Until 10 P.M.
Fans of tennis, basketball, and volleyball will know Towers Park well, but they may not realize that this easy-to-reach location also includes a separate park for dogs! You can’t let your friend run around on any of the athletic courts, but with a designated closed-off area that’s open and well lit until 10 P.M., we don’t think you’ll be tempted.
2754-2798 S Oakland St., Arlington, VA – Open Until a Half-Hour After Sunset
There’s no way to deny it: the Shirlington Dog Park is one of the most popular dog parks in Arlington County. It’s not hard to see why! This enormous park is also located on Four Mile Run, farther south than Glencarlyn, and right outside of Shirlington. Take note that this location can get pretty busy at times, but we think that’s part of its charm! What’s more, since it’s managed by an active and dedicated sponsors group, you can learn about rules and special events on their website.
3829 N Stafford St., Arlington, VA – Hours Vary by Day
If you’re headed up north along the Potomac River, you might be interested in checking out the Madison Community Center! The community center has playrooms for kids and multi-purpose rooms for adults, so it’s an especially fine choice if you’re bringing the whole family along to spend the day out with the dogs. The nearby Ethan Allen Park stretches for 15 acres, and features a playground, athletic courts, and of course, a fully fenced-in dog park.
